A FLASH FIRE erupted in a Bronx recording studio as workers were making repairs early Thursday, killing one person and injuring four others — one of whom was covered in flames as he ran outside.
“He was screaming for his daughter — that he was going to die,” said Jonathan Martinez, 19, who works at a bodega near the recording studio in High Bridge.
“He was on fire from head to toe.”
The man, identified by several friends as Joel Guzman, 21, was burned over about 90% of his body and was in critical condition at Jacobi Medical Center late Thursday, FDNY officials said.
He was part of a work crew that included Winston Munoz, 27, of Morris Heights, who died in the blaze at the studio on Plimpton Ave., official sources said.
Munoz, who friends said was related to the studio’s owner, and others were laying linoleum tiles using a flammable adhesive, FDNY officials said.
The adhesive’s vapors are also flammable, and the room was not properly ventilated, the officials added, noting that what ignited the flames at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday was still being investigated.
The city Department of Buildings website showed no active work permits for the property.
The studio’s owner, his wife, and another man suffered less serious burns and were in stable condition at area hospitals Thursday, officials said.
